Shopping

When I lived in Stormhold (SCA Melbourne), the Victoria Markets were nearby. Vegetables and meat were really cheap and super fresh.

In Okewaite (SCA Goulburn) there are no such options, though the Belconnen and Fyshwick markets in Canberra are just an hour away and reasonable though not cheap. The market people can often source things for you, given a bit of notice. Weird stuff like pheasants and quail is getting harder to find.

I get a lot of things from Asian specialty stores, and there is a decent one at the Fyshwick markets.

The best supermarket for feast ingredients is Aldi, which can save you a lot of money if you plan your menu with their limited range in mind. Some things I have to get from Coles or Woolies because they are the only Goulburn suppliers.

For larger feasts, I make a recipes document, then a spreadsheet with all the ingredient quantities, and sort to produce my shopping list. Usually I do a circuit the week before to check prices and work out where to get everything. Arrange to pick up the meat last, as you need to get it straight into a good fridge.
